This technical report studies enhancements to the Service Enabler Architecture Layer (SEAL) to better support third-party applications. It identifies gaps in existing SEAL specifications regarding network resource management (NRM) for services like XR and IoT, the SEAL data delivery (SEALDD) service, and the interaction between SEAL servers and core network functions either directly or via NEF/SCEF. The analysis proposes design guidelines for application-friendly APIs, minimizing unnecessary parameters and improving interpretability. This work is crucial for enabling vertical industries such as automotive, healthcare, and media to leverage 5G capabilities through simplified, standardized interfaces.

1 Scope

The present document is a technical report which identifies enhancements to the application enablement layer architecture, capabilities, and services to support AI/ML services at the application layer.

The aspects of the study include the continuation of the investigation of application enablement impacts, the application enablement layer architecture enhancements and solutions needed to provide assistance in AI/ML operations at the VAL layer as well as at the application enablement layer (e.g., SEAL ADAES, EDGEAPP).

The study takes into consideration the work done for AI/ML in 3GPP TS 23.436 [3] and 3GPP TS 23.482 [2] and can consider other AI/ML related works within 3GPP.
